Although your chiropractor at Schroeder Family Chiropractic utilizes spinal adjustments as the main method of treatment, he or she may add certain adjunctive therapies to provide the most effective care.
The chiropractic spinal adjustment represents the cornerstone of your treatment.
A spinal adjustment is the process of applying a quick and gentle pressure to "subluxated", or fixated, vertebrae in a corrective manner. The adjustments are not and should not be painful. In fact, most patients look forward to their chiropractic adjustments as they usually provide immediate relief from discomfort. Many years of study and practice have been acquired to master the skills of providing an effective and safe spinal adjustment.
Research has shown spinal adjustments to be the most effective treatment in numerous conditions including back pain. This is because spinal adjustments correct many of the structural, biomechanical, and neurological dusfunctions origniating at the spine which cause or contribute to a high number of back, neck and other non-spinal ailments.
Depending on your condition, you may benefit from extremity adjustments. The doctors are trained in extraspinal care, ranging from shoulders to ankles, wrists, elbows, knees, etc. Speed up the healing of an injury or simply increase the range of motion in a joint to improve function and relieve pain.
This movement-based therapy helps loosen localized tightness in a muscle. You and Dr. Schroeder will work together to release scar tissue and fascial adhesions to restore normal function and range of motion.
Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
A tool is used to realign muscle fibers, freeing them from overuse adhesions or fibrotic scar tissue. Clearing out these adhesions and scar tissue will help your muscles move freely, increasing range of motion and decreasing tightness.
Rocktape application benefits athletes and non-athletes alike. Improve your posture at work or on the road with postural taping. Decompress overloaded tissues. Stimulate muscles to better perform, balancing muscle tension. Relieve the stress of the extra baby weight for pregnant women.
We will assess your condition and may prescribe specific strengthening and stabilizing exercises and stretches to support your rehabilitation. As we progress in your healing, strengthing exercises will be focused on increasing stability around the injury, while normalizing proprioception to protect from new injuries and recurrences of past problems.
Therapeutic stretching is important to prevent scar tissue and adhesion formation following injury. Stretching is most effective when initiated early on in the treatment plan before scar tissues become permanent. Dr. Schroeder will determine what needs to be stretched, then the appropriate form of stretching will be incorporated into care. You may be taught and assigned helpful static stretching and/or dynamic stretching. She will also stretch you out during your visit. PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) is an active form of stretching, where you and the doctor will be working together to release adhesions by alternating between muscle contraction then relaxation.
If appropriate, your doctor may address ergonomic training and education to reduce work or school-related injuries. Optimal workstation setup, proper lifting techniques, adequate physical conditioning, and the employment of appropriate safety precautions all play important roles in your health and injury prevention.

Lifestyle Modification Counseling
Good health is much more than the absence of pain or discomfort. Health exists along a very wide scale and where you lie on that scale largely depends on the lifestyle choices you make on a daily basis. Years of many small unhealthy choices can manifest into very serious health problems. Unhealthy choices include habitual poor posture, improper lifting techniques, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, excessive reliance on medication, excessive soda and energy drink consumption, excessive sugar consumption, lack of nutritious fruits and vegetables, and excessive mental stress. These slowly chip away at your good health. We can help you sort through and identify those unhealthy decisions and provide you with practical strategies to deal with and effectively manage them.
